This week we have been learning about trains, planes and cars. We read the Train Ride story and looked at the different places the train travelled through. In Maths we enjoyed sorting the vehicles based on the number of wheels they have. Some of us talked about different places we have been on holiday and how we got there.
We used instruments to tap a rhythm to 'In and Out the Dusty Bluebells'.
Next week we will be having a Space theme. We are going to read the story Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy and use our imaginations to go up into space. We will also be composing our own space music.
Please remember that Forest Schools is on Wednesday next week and the children will need wellies in school. If it is hot they should also bring in a sunhat.

Redbourn - Our World
This week we have been learning about Redbourn, our homes and the village.
We have drawn pictures of our homes and written about them. We have shared what our homes are like with our friends and we have enjoyed hearing all about what the children's bedrooms are like.
Our village walk to the Post Office went very well. Thank you to all those adults who helped. We really appreciate it.
We were very excited this week as we were able to go and look at the Living Eggs in the Learning Pod between the reception classes. We made predictions on when we thought the first egg would hatch and some of us were lucky to be there as an egg hatched. Lots of the children were keen to hold the chicks which we are hoping to do next week.
Please take a look at our Nursery Newsletter and Home Learning Ideas which you should have received this week. If the children do a piece of Home Learning please bring it in or provide a photograph as we would love to include these in their Learning Journeys.
Work shadowing begins the week beginning 9th May. Sign up sheets are now available outside Nursery if you would like to come and see what your child gets up to during their Nursery session.

In Phonics we will be revisiting sounds that have already been introduced and starting to listen carefully to sounds in words by segmenting and blending.

Welcome back
Welcome back to Nursery and we hope you all had a lovely Easter break.
This week we have begun thinking about our new topic 'Wonders of the World' by reading the Creation Story and thinking about all the wonders in our world. The children have been drawing pictures and attempting to write about them, as well as making their own worlds by painting and using collage.
The children are enjoying using the new Post Office role play. We're sure many of you have been receiving lots of letters this week. It has been lovely seeing the children so excited about their mark making. We are going on a Village Walk next Thursday 28th April and hoping to include a visit to the Post Office. If you are able to help please let a member of the team know. Thank you to those who have already offered to help.
Our outdoor area is developing and we have now got our den making area up and running. The children are experimenting with building and creating their own dens.
We have also moved some of the groups around to encourage the children to mix with other peers and to get them used to different staff members. We hope the children have enjoyed changing groups, but if you have any concerns please speak to one of the team.
Next week we will be learning about Redbourn and the children will be encouraged to talk about what they already know about Redbourn, their house, street and family. We will also be asking them to think of questions about what they would like to find out about Redbourn - who, what, when, how.

Easter
We have been learning about the Easter story this week and we have been busy making our Easter cards. We hope you like them. The children have tried hard to challenge themselves by writing their names independently, and some have copied other words too. They have been feeling very proud of themselves.
We have developed our outside area by moving the instruments from the reception playground to outside Nursery. The children helped to set up a stage using the blocks and enjoyed performing to the music we played outside. This will be our new creative area and we are looking forward to developing it further with the children's help.
Next week we will continuing learning about Easter and comparing it with the Hindu festival of Colours; Holi. Paints at the ready! We will also be using the computer and using the mouse to create Holi inspired pictures.
Please could you talk to your children about the Easter weekend so that they can share something they have done with the rest of the group.

Inside Out
We have finally got the blog up and running again after some changes in usernames and passwords!! We will try to keep you updated with weekly blogs on what the children have been doing and what they will be learning the following week.
This half term we have been looking at creatures that live inside and out. This started with a dinosaur hunt in the outdoor area. The children loved looking for dinosaurs and were very excited to find a baby one inside a dinosaur egg!
We enjoyed retelling story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar during book week. We counted fruits and made our butterfly Mother's Day cards. Professor Pango Mango made us laugh with his funny rhymes and we were lucky enough to have the Year 6 children come and read to us.
We have been looking at creatures in shells the last couple of weeks. We had some snail visitors and looked at them eating homemade lettuce soup. Some of us were even brave enough to hold them.
This week we read Sharing a Shell by Julia Donaldson and listened for rhyming words and were told the story of How Tortoise Got his Broken shell. We have been challenging the children to use 2d shapes to mend the shell. We have also been mixing colours.
Next week we will be learning about Easter by listening to the Easter Story. We will also be discussing what the children do to celebrate Easter. Please talk to your child about what they will be doing Easter weekend so that they can get involved in discussions.
We will be singing 'Hot Cross Buns' and revising the letter sounds we have been introduced to - s, a, t, p, i, n, m, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, b, f. The children will practise recognising these and will be thinking of words which start with these sounds.

Sharing Assembly
This week we have been preparing for our Sharing Assembly. They children did so well with their speaking and were very proud to share their work with you.
We had a trip to the Forest School.The children went on a twig hunt and used their vocabulary to describe the different twigs they found. They also went on a treasure hunt and had to use their phonic knowledge to blend cvc words on the clues.
After half term the sound of the week will be 'r'.
Today was Mrs Turner's last day in Nursery but she is looking forward to coming to visit us with her new baby very soon. Thank you for all your support this year.

Chinese New Year
This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year. Here are some of our activities:
*Working together to create a Chinese Dragon dance in PE.
*Using our imaginations in the restaurant role play.
*Trying to use chopsticks and tweezers.
*Giving programmable toys instructions.
*Using positional language.
*Talking about the numbers we wore on Number Day.
Next week we will be learning about pancakes. We will have another trip to Forest School on Wednesday so please remember to make sure your child has a pair of wellies in school.
Tuesday is Safer Internet Day. Please look out for a flyer explaining how you could help your child at home. Remember to make sure they know to tell an adult if they see something that makes them feel uncomfortable online.
Our Sharing Assembly is on Friday and everybody is welcome. The Morning session's assembly is at 9:10am and the Afternoon session's is at 2:45pm.
The sound of the week will be 'u'.
The rhyme of the week will be '5 fat sausages sizzling in a pan.'
